The Midas Awards honour the world’s best work in financial services communication and the 2009 edition included accolades for two South African agencies.

Recognising advertising in banking, brokerage, insurance, mutual fund, credit card, real estate, accounting and consulting, the Midas Awards categories are: Consumer and B2B Communications, Corporate Communications, Craft and Technique, and Best Use of Medium.

This year, entries were received from 21 countries around the world and the grand jury awarded one Grand Midas Award, 10 Gold Ingots, and 24 Silver Ingots. In addition, 29 entries were awarded Finalist Certificates. Graham Warsop, chief creative officer at The Jupiter Drawing Room in Johannesurg, participated on the judging panel.

The Grand Midas Award went to McCann Erickson, New York, for its “Shopping” campaign on behalf of Mastercard.

The South African winners were:

  • A Gold Award to NetworkBBDO, Johannesburg, for its “Recycled Billboard” in the Banking category for Nedbank.
  • Two Silver Awards to Draftfcb Cape Town, for its “Odds” and “Philosophy Brand Books” campaigns, both in the Insurance category for Santam.

Our congratulations go out to these agencies for showcasing local talent on a global stage.
